Mid-Week Pick Me Up

It's March 11th, 2020, the markets are in disarray and we are all stockpiling toilet paper.

How about a mid-week mini-book haul from a couple of weeks back on these great books. Have you had a chance to read any of these?

John C. Maxwell is a newcomer to my book pile but after reading Everybody Communicates Few Connect I thought it would be a good idea to give him another read with 25 Ways to Win With People. I'm guessing a lot of the ideas will be common sense but I've often found that a gentle nudge and reminder can go a long way for me.

Bessel Van Der Kolk's The Body Keeps the Score comes highly recommended amongst the psychology crowd here on IG and I've already dived into that one. It's a deep dive into the ideas of trauma and how they impact both our bodies and our minds. As we learn more about how the mind-body connection seems like an increasingly important book. I'm particularly fascinated about the stomach connection to stress as I'm partially convinced that my own bought of stomach issues was brought on by stress.

Robin Speziale's Market Masters will continue the trend on my monthly finance reads. It's specific to Canada but should be a good read. With the market acting the way it is perhaps I should pick this one up now. This one is based on interviews with some of Canada's top investors so should provide an interesting look into the minds of the market and how I may be able to glean some knowledge.

Chuck Palahniuk's take on the writing lifestyle, Consider This, should be interesting considering his own life story and the books that he writes. I'm a fan of his fiction so looking forward to this one. It also comes highly recommended on IG. As a big fan of writers and their internal thoughts, I'm looking forward to getting inside the head of this man who has so many fascinating fiction books.

Lastly The Collected Letters of Alan Watts. I always like buying these letter books and then never get around to reading them ... I'm going to start! If his books are any indication of how good this will be then it's a no-brainer.

“Sometimes I get the queerest feeling that things going on in the world around one, are in some odd way reflections of things happening in the depths of one’s own mind. It is almost as if the world gets calm as you keep calm yourself, and vice versa.”

That beer is a Sky Rocket V from The Establishment Brewing Co. A delicious IPA in the form of their fifth iteration. They are crushing it with everything they are putting out!
